Samir first came to prominence as a commercial director where his work has been widely recognized for its naturalism, emotion and visual aesthetic. After signing with global production house Smuggler, Mallal directed campaigns for such brands as Google, GE, Coca-Cola and Starbucks among many others.
Samir took an early interest in VR, writing, directing and producing the groundbreaking short New Wave with Vrse.
Mallal began in documentary, directing three films with the National Film Board of Canada, including Nollywood Babylon which premiered in Competition at Sundance.
Samir’s work has won a Cannes Gold Lion, a Gold Clio, a Webby, a D&AD and been nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. His documentary films have exhibited at major festivals and institutions around the world.
Samir was selected for the Saatchi and Saatchi New Director’s Showcase, and won Best Young Director at Cannes Festival of Creativity in 2010.
